U.S. Rep. David Wu (D-1st District, Ore.) visited several nurseries yesterday that sustained storm damage during the December ice storms, and according to the Capital Press, the visit made quite an impression on him:
“The magnitude of the damage becomes apparent as you get by the hoop houses,” Wu said. “I have seen the dollar estimates, but there is a lot more physical damage than I imagined.”
Although Oregon growers are working hard to get products to market in top shape as per usual, the storm did hit some of them particularly hard. Wu has agreed to sign on to a letter to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack seeking an agricultural disaster decclaration. You can see a photo and read the entire story about Wu’s nursery tour at the Capital Press Web site. We also have photos and may add one to this post later on.
