The North Willamette Research and Extension Center (NWREC) will offer “Water Management for Floriculture and Nursery Crops,” a two-day workshop, on Thursday-Friday, Feb. 2–3, 2011 at the Wilsonville Holiday Inn (day one) and NWREC (day two). According to the organizers, participants will learn how to:
- monitor and manage pathogens, salts and alkalinity problems in irrigation water;
- incorporate best management practices (BMPs) to monitor and manage fertility and irrigation;
- remediate on-site water using non-chemical methods; and
- use new research and technologies with advice from industry and university experts.
Participants will receive pesticide credits (application pending), a free booklet on water treatment, and tours of two top producers (Monrovia Nursery Co. in Dayton, Ore., and Woodburn Nursery and Azalea, Inc. in Woodburn, Ore.) Speakers will include Paul Fisher (University of Florida), Loren Oki (University of California), Jim Owen of Oregon State University (OSU), Jennifer Parke of OSU, Richard Regan of OSU and other industry experts.
