Golf tournament raises more than $100K to benefit homeless

Dennis’ 7 Dees presented local charity Human Solutions with a check for $100,402 to help fund two shelters and other programs for homeless families. The money was raised during the annual Charity Golf Tournament, held Thursday, Sept. 12, at Langdon Farms Golf Club.

“The tournament is a great way for community members to really help our neighbors who are struggling,” said Dave Snodgrass, president of Dennis’ 7 Dees Landscaping and Garden Centers. “It always amazes me how much we can get accomplished when we all band together.”

Snodgrass set an ambitious fundraising goal of $100,000 to meet a pressing need. Each year, Human Solutions provides shelter to more than 1,000 families, including over 400 homeless children; however, the non-profit faced a budget shortfall that could have shut the doors to its Emergency Family Winter Shelter in March 2014. The funds raised at the tournament will go toward keeping the shelter open longer during the inhospitable winter months.

“We will use the funding from this tournament to now keep the shelter open through April, ensuring that homeless children and their families will have a roof over their heads along with a safe environment to begin their pathway out of poverty,” said Jean DeMaster, executive director of Human Solutions.
