Kraemer’s Nursery, Inc. is a family-owned wholesale nursery operating in the Mt. Angel area since 1968. We grow a wide variety of woody shrubs and ornamentals, including broadleaf evergreens, conifers, grasses, flowering shrubs, perennials, roses, small fruits, Japanese maples and more. We ship to a national customer base that includes major retailers, independent nurseries/garden centers, re-wholesalers, and landscapers. We are recruiting for an Assistant Grower. Successful candidate will have a four-year degree in Horticulture or Agriculture and be bi-lingual in English and Spanish. The salary range, depending on education and experience, is $75,000 – $90,000 annually. The Assistant Grower (AG) reports to the Production Manager. The AG’s primary responsibilities include assisting with the direction, management, and coordination of the duties of the Site Supervisors and Section Growers. The AG will assist with the planning and preparation of the nursery production plan, monitoring growing, potting and field planting. The AG will work closely with all departments in a cooperative and collaborative manner to ensure overall cost effective and efficient nursery operations. The AG will participate in and support the training of all employees in the basic methodologies of Continuous Improvement/Lean and collaborate with leaders within the company to identify and prioritize Continuous Improvement/Lean opportunities.
Specific Duties
- Work closely with Production Manager, Site Supervisors and Section
- Growers to grow and maintain quality plants for our customers.
- Provide support and planning to production crews to ensure the most efficient use of labor and equipment.
- Track and support tasks established at Manager meetings and Section Grower meetings.
- Communicate with Sales team to address concerns, timing and/or status of crops.
- Work with all cultural aspects of growing plants at the nursery including irrigation, soil and plant health, fertilization, and chemical applications.
- Communicate and enforce company policies.
- Follow proper chain of command to receive work instructions and report any problems or concerns to the Production Manager.
- Perform all work in a safe and efficient manner.
General Duties
Become a valuable growing resource, supporting the operational success of the nursery, and perform any other reasonable task as required by management and in accordance with applicable laws.
Mental and Physical Requirements
- Specific knowledge of agricultural practices.
- Able to climb up and down equipment.
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Able to operate hand tools (such as trimmers, fertilizer applicators, backpack blowers).
- Able to operate machinery (such as tractors, forklifts, case loaders).

Work Environment Characteristics
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, insects, or agricultural chemicals.
- Ability to perform duties both outside and inside in varying conditions including extreme heat, extreme cold, and wet and/or humid weather conditions.
- The work environment for this position may include observations near moving mechanical parts.
- Individual must be able to withstand the noise of forklifts, tractors, and other agricultural equipment.

PRT is currently recruiting for a full time Grower position at PRT Hubbard, Hubbard, Oregon, USA. This person will assist with the production of quality forest seedling crops by applying effective forest nursery practices and principles, and will operationally assist, co-ordinate and train forest nursery workers in required nursery work activities. Some experience and education in Horticulture preferred. Full training will be provided. Key responsibilities:
- Implementing water, fertilization and greenhouse cultural programs as indicated on Crop Prescriptions.
- Operating the Argus Environmental Control System for irrigation, climate and alarm programs.
- Monitoring the growth of seedlings through morphological measurements and tissue nutrient analyses.
- Making insect and disease inspections and implementing methods of control.
- Keeping neat and accurate records including computerized record keeping systems.
- Inspecting and repairing, or requesting replacement, Argus monitoring equipment and software as needed.
- Supervising and training seasonal irrigation employees.
- Training nursery employees in safe, efficient work practices in weeding, quality control, cultural practices, and other nursery activities, as applicable.
- Follow a company directed Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program for pesticide application.
- Providing feedback on growing programs to the Production Manager on a regular basis.
- Filter cleaning and replacement for the main filter and those within greenhouses.
- Regular inspection of injectors, irrigation lines and mixing equipment for wear and proper function.
- Assisting with crop and growing material inventories.
Required qualifications and skills:
- Successful completion of two certificates in horticulture.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Knowledge of greenhouse equipment and climate control systems.
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Great organizational and record keeping skills.
- Ability to provide basic maintenance of facilities and equipment.
