The Inventory Manager reports to the General Manager and oversees inventory reporting, accuracy, and planning at our Eagle Creek, OR location — supporting production and sales through accurate data, availability reporting, and close coordination with sales, purchasing, receiving, and yard teams.
What You Bring — Required: 2+ years office/admin experience in nursery/horticulture or related industry; strong plant/nursery knowledge; proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook; strong communication skills; able to coordinate across departments and manage detailed data accurately. Preferred: Bilingual Spanish; ERP or inventory system experience.
Work Environment: In-office role in an active nursery (no remote work). Requires extended sitting/standing, extensive typing/10-key, and frequent movement between office and yard, with occasional exposure to weather, uneven ground, dust, and allergens. Devil Mountain is looking for an experienced Purchasing Manager to lead plant purchasing at our Eagle Creek, Oregon location. You’ll build strong grower/supplier relationships, monitor inventory needs, coordinate with Sales, Receiving, and Yard teams, and keep purchasing data accurate in our ERP system. This hands-on role suits someone with strong nursery/horticultural experience who enjoys vendor management and balancing inventory, customer, and operational demands.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead plant purchasing to maintain appropriate inventory and support operations and customer needs.
- Build grower/vendor relationships and resolve availability, pricing, delivery, and supply issues.
- Monitor inventory and purchasing activity to prevent stockouts, overstock, and obsolete inventory.
- Source plant material for inventory, projects, and special orders, recommending substitutions.
- Coordinate with Sales, Receiving, and Yard on purchasing needs and product availability.
- Manage purchase orders and maintain accurate purchasing/vendor data in company systems.
- Hire, train, and supervise Stocking Specialist/Buyer staff.
- Support purchasing process improvements and special projects.
What You Bring — Required: 5+ years in nursery/horticulture or related industry, including purchasing, procurement, or plant-buying experience; strong plant/nursery knowledge; ERP purchasing software experience; proficient in Word and Excel; strong communication and organizational skills; able to manage multiple priorities and build relationships across vendors and internal teams.
Work Environment: In-office role with frequent movement between office and nursery yard (regular remote work not available). Requires extensive computer use/typing/10-key, extended sitting or standing, and occasional exposure to weather, uneven ground, dust, and plant material. Lifting up to 20 lbs. about 20% of the time.
