Nursery Country Video #1: J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co.

By Curt Kipp — Posted January 7, 2014

“Welcome to Nursery Country!” This special January issue of Digger, formerly known as the State of Perfection issue, has been showcasing outstanding Oregon nurseries for six years now. Five nurseries are featured in this year’s edition.

For the next five business days, we will post a different video on one of the featured nurseries every day, until all five videos are out there for you to see. Today’s video, embedded below, features J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co., which has four farms throughout the state and is headquartered in Boring, Ore. Keith Warren, director of new products, talks about the company and its remarkable tree breeding and introduction program. You can read the related article about J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co. here(PDF).

The Nursery Country issue has been mailed to subscribers. Not a subscriber? You can pick up your individual copy at the Mid Atlantic Nursery Trade Show (MANTS), Jan. 8–10 in Baltimore. Just stop by the Oregon Association of Nurseries booth. If you prefer to read on the computer, you will also be able to download individual articles as PDFs right here, or flip through all the pages by clicking here (Flash required for the flipbook version).

Please check back tomorrow for the next video, featuring Hochstein Nursery in Cornelius, Ore.
