During his visit to Southern California yesterday, President Barack Obama indicated he still supports comprehensive immigration reform, including a path to citizenship for those presently in the country. They would have to pay a significant fine, learn English (if they don’t already know it) and go to the back of the line. The position is similar to the one that was held by former president George W. Bush during his term in office. A day earlier, Hispanic lawmakers met with Obama to discuss the same topic. They said Thursday they were encouraged by what transpired. Business groups favoring comphrehensive reform also had to be encouraged.
