An experienced and wise grower recently told me that great weather late in the week makes for great retail nursery sales on the weekend. That’s because people make their weekend plans on Thursday or Friday. This got me to thinking – is this also true during the colder months? Like, say, December? Today, Western Oregon was blessed with exceptionally pleasant weather — sunny and crisp. Perfect for, say, I don’t know … going out and selecting your Christmas tree. Will this be good news for tree farms and all-season garden centers? The weather probably won’t be as good tomorrow and Sunday, but it doesn’t look like it will be especially bad. There’s also the conventional wisdom to consider, which says that in this recession, people are looking for “mental comfort food” such as a real tree in the living room. If you own a retail nursery or Christmas tree farm, let us know how it goes.
