Farwest Show speaker boasts gardening with ferns

In a wide-ranging presentation, Steffen will share information on how to use ferns effectively in the landscape and their historical use in gardens. Using beautiful photography Steffen will highlight top performing native ferns along with exotics from around the world. The lecture will illustrate clever garden features that anyone can create at home 8:30—9:30 a.m., Thursday, August 24 in room B115 of the Oregon Convention Center.

Steffen, the director of the Elisabeth C. Miller Botanical Garden and curator for the garden’s Great Plant Picks program, co-authored and co-photographed The Plant Lover’s Guide to Ferns. Steffen oversees the development of the Miller garden and its educational programs, including Great Plant Picks, which is a resource for outstanding and reliable plants for the maritime Pacific Northwest. He is president of the Northwest Horticultural Society and the Hardy Fern Foundation and an experienced fern grower.
