Skagit Horticulture acquires Skagit Gardens

By Peter Szymczak — Posted November 21, 2016

This past July, Skagit Gardens was acquired by Skagit Horticulture, an affiliate of Northwest Horticulture LLC.

Skagit Gardens and Northwest Horticulture are Mount Vernon, Washington–based wholesalers of perennial ground covers. The companies will operate as separate divisions under the umbrella of their common ownership, while maintaining their individual identity and product lines.

“Both divisions are strengthened by leveraging our operating efficiency, maximizing the utilization of our greenhouse and growing facilities, as well as by our strong teams,” said Mark Buchholz, president and CEO of the combined companies.

For the past 50 years, Skagit Gardens has provided annuals, perennials and edibles to garden retailers, primarily west of the Rockies. The company has cultivated a reputation for partnering with breeders worldwide to trial, select and introduce superior varieties to the marketplace. Skagit Gardens is a large grower of specialty Hellebore varieties. For more information, visit their website at www.skagitgardens.com.

Since 1998, Northwest Horticulture has served major mass-market retailers in the western United States, specializing in hardy perennials and grasses. The young plant division provides perennials to both small and large growers across North America and is the largest volume producer of Knockout® and Drift® roses. Northwest Horticulture has also developed the Sedum Tile® mat under the Etera® brand for the green roof industry, along with innovative retail and landscape applications. For more information, visit their website at www.northwesthort.com.
