The United Fresh Produce Association has a new survey out, and although nurseries are mentioned nowhere in it, it still should be of great interest to retail and wholesale growers. The survey talks about consumer perceptions of fresh produce. It found that 90 percent of consumers are concerned about the safety of said produce, and 32 percent are very concerned. This information only serves to underline the growing trend of people purchasing edibles to plant, grow and harvest at home, whether they be vegetable starts, fruit and nut trees, vegetable seeds, or ornamental edibles. People may be less concerned about food they’ve grown in their own backyard, particularly when they know how it has been fertilized and treated.
